Dr. Karen S. Briggs

_wsb_400x300_Dr.jpgDr. Briggs received her bachelor's degree in microbiology and public health at Michigan State University, following which she attended medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hyde Park, Illinois. She performed her internship and residency in ophthalmology at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital and St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, completing her ophthalmology training with a fellowship in Glaucoma at the Kresge Eye Institute at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Briggs is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist.

Dr. Briggs trained medical students and ophthalmology residents while starting her private practice with an emphasis on glaucoma in Schererville, Indiana in 1990. With her penchant for patient-centered care and communication, Dr. Briggs quickly earned a reputation for quality and compassion that earned her the 2002 Ophthalmology Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology. More recently, she was one of the initial investigators of the Trabectome surgical device, a new minimally invasive technique for the treatment of glaucoma which has significantly reduced the complications associated with traditional glaucoma surgery. Her practice has continued to grow with the addition of associates who share her patient-first approach to ophthalmology and medicine.
